We welcome approaches from professionals who are interested in what we do, or in becoming involved with our scheme.  Our contact detail are available here.   If you are interested in joining us, please do get in touch and perhaps arrange to come to one of our regular educational sessions to meet us.  More details are available here.

If you are a member of the ambulance service please bear us in mind when attending incidents - if you would like our support or assistance ask the Clinical Hub if they can contact an available SAVES/BASICS doctor.

SAVES works under clear clinical and procedural governance procedures agreed with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.  Since 2010 we have worked in a federation called BASICS South West, together with all the other schemes across the South West region.

Certain BASICS South West policies and documents are available to all at the Documentation and Resources area of the BASICS South West website and include:

  • Call Out Procedure
  • Approval Process for New Responders
  • Observer Policy
  • Patient Report Forms Policy
  • Equipment Checking and Maintenance Policy
  • Case Review Audit Process

Clinical and Operational Guidelines (CoGs) are available to members of BASICS South West at the Members' Area of the BASICS South West website and include:

  • Intraosseous access using EZ-IO
  • Pelvic Trauma and Splinting
  • Resuscitative Thoracotomy
  • Needle Thoracocentesis, Thoracostomy and Chest Drains
  • Resuscitative Thoracotomy
  • Resuscitative perimortem caesarean section
  • Emergency Field Amputation
  • Crush Syndrome
  • Pharmacologically Assisted Laryngeal Mask (PALM)
  • Management of Major Haemorrhage
  • Analgesia and Sedation
  • Dealing with the Deceased
  • Surgical Cricothyroidotomy
  • Traumatic Cardiac Arrest

Where regional COGs are impractical, SAVES also has a very few Standard Operating Procedures of its own. Our SOPS are drawn up by the medical committee and developed in consultation with the membership.  They are available to SAVES Members on the Members' Section of this website.
